Smartphones Will Turn Expensive, Very Soon!

It’s unfortunately true, the more unfortunate thing is that the expected surge in prices is not due to high demand or a Wallstreet crash, its due to a natural catastrophe, the earthquake & Tsunami of Japan.

This is no hidden truth that world’s finest Chips, camera and other electronic gadgets are manufactured in Japan.The recent Tsunami has led to great losses, the chip manufacturing companies have been completely washed away, in these are the ones which supply few of the main chips used to assemble iPhone and other smartphones being marketed under different OS Platforms including Android, iOS, Windows Phone 7 and Linux.

For a second, a lay man would think about inventories, but Japan is known to keep very low inventory levels possibly because of Demand always surpassing Supplies.

Not only Apple and bunch of other Smartphones manufacturers but a global short fall of chips would dry-out the supply-chain of major players of communication devices today, hence,  trigger surge in prices, experts believe that this effect wouldn’t be abrupt but it would take atleast 3 weeks to surface.

It would not be a surprise if we see delays in launchs of some of the most awaited smartphones such as

• iPhone 5
• Casio Commando
• Samsung Charge
• Sony Ericsson Xperia Play
• HTC Trophy
• HTC Droid Incredible 2
• LG Revolution
• Motorola Bionic

• Motorola Droid X 2
• Samsung Galaxy S2

The above mentioned sets, except for iPhone are scheduled for Summer-release in the US and I expect their release dates to shift further, we will update you as and when we get updates on this.
