How to Configure Windows Live Mail/Hotmail in Mozilla Thunderbird

If you’re having trouble in setting up Windows Live Mail account in Mozilla Thunderbird 2, then here are the simple settings to follow:

1. Go to Tools -> Account Settings
2. Add Account -> Email account
3. Enter your name and in Email Address textbox, type your complete email address (including @live.com/@hotmail.com

4. Click Next and select “POP” and in Incoming Server,type:
pop3.live.com

5. Click Next, you’ll see your user name in the text box, just add “@live.com” or “@hotmail.com in front of the user name you see.

6. Click Next -> Finish

You’ll see Account Settings Window again. Select your account you just added from accounts list on left.

7. Click “Server Settings” (under your newly added account).
8. On the Right, under Security Settings, Choose “SSL” (by default “Never” is selected)

9. Now Click “Outgoing Server (SMTP)” from the left.

10. Click “Add” to add a new server.

11. Enter following information in the pop up window that appears:

Desciption: [Type Anything] (usually server name; like “Live Mail SMTP”)
Server Name: smtp.live.com
Port: 587

Check “Use name and password”
User Name: [Type your complete email address here, including @live.com or @hotmail.com]
Use Secure Connection : Choose “TLS, if available”

12. Click OK to save SMTP settings

13. And OK again to close Account Settings.
